Zechariah 12: God, The One They Pierced

Zechariah 12: God Was The One They Have Pierced Collin Leong. February 27, 2026 (v1-9) The Coming Deliverance of Judah (v1-2) The oracle of the word of the LROD concerning Israel: Thus declares the LORD, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the spirit of man within him. "Behold, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the surrounding people. The siege of Jerusalem will also be against Judah." Exp: In v2 , "a cup of staggering" or "a cup of drunkenness" (NKJ) is judgement against other nations.  The effect of drinking is disorientation, confusion, and collapse. It conveys that the nations who attack Jerusalem will be thrown into chaos, unable to stand firm. Similarly, in Jeremiah 25:15-16 , God gives the nations a “cup of wine of wrath,” and they stagger and fall because of it. Though t hey will siege Jerusalem against Judah, but it will be their own downfall. (v3-5) "On that day I will make Jerusalem a ...

Zechariah 11: God As The Rejected Shepherd

Zechariah 11: God As The Rejected Shepherd Collin Leong. Feb 19, 2026 (v1-17) The Flock Doomed to Slaughter (v1-3) Open the doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour your cedars! Wail, O cypress, for the cedar has fallen, for the glorious trees are ruined! Wail, oaks of Bashan, for the thick forest has been felled! The sound of the wail of the shepherd, for their glory is ruined! The sound of the roar of the lions, for the thicket of the Jordan is ruined! Exp: We spoke about Lebanon and Gilead in the last chapter. Bashan is in southern Syria, particularly around the Hauran region. Parts of Bashan extended into what is now northern Jordan. The western portion of Bashan is identified with the Golan Heights and the Sea of Galilee. (See Appendix for Details about Bashan) To relate - Gilead (Ch 10) is directly south of Bashan, in the mountainous region of modern-day northwestern Jordan , east of the Jordan River. Today's cities include Irbid, Ajloun, and Jerash.  Th...

Zechariah 10: God Will Gather Israel and Redeem Them

Zechariah 10: God Will Gather Israel and Redeem Them Collin Leong. February 17th, 2026 (v1-12) The Restoration for Judah and Israel (v1-2) Ask rain from the LORD in the season of the spring rain, from the LORD who makes the storm clouds, and he will give them showers of rain, to everyone the vegetation in the field. For the household gods utter nonsense, and the diviners see lies; they tell false dreams and give empty consolation. Therefore the people wander like sheep; the are afflicted for lack of a shepherd. Exp:   Rain in its season echoes covenant blessings in Deuteronomy (e.g., Deut. 11:14) . Rain here is not just agricultural blessing but a symbol of life, renewal, and covenant faithfulness. The Lord is depicted as the one who truly commands the storm clouds and gives vegetation to all.  False religion produces disorientation and affliction , while divine provision produces flourishing. (v3-5) My anger is hot against the shepherds, and I will punish the leaders; for ...

Zechariah 9: The Humble King of Peace

Zechariah 9: The Humble King of Peace Collin Leong. Feb 14, 2026 (v1-8) Judgment on Israel's Enemies (v1-4) The oracle of the word of the LORD is against the land of Hadrach and Damascus is its resting place. For the the LORD has an eye on mankind and on all the tribes of Israel, and on Hamath also, which borders on it, Tyre and Sidon, though they are very wise. Tyre has built herself a rampart and heaped up silver like dust, and fine gold like the mud of the streets. But behold, the LORD will strip her of her possessions and strike down her power on the sea, and she shall be devoured by fire.  Exp: Hadrach is only mentioned here in the entire Bible. Most interpreters place Hadrach in the vicinity of Damascus, in present-day Syria .   Assyrian inscriptions list Hadrach among Syrian cities tributary to Nineveh, confirming it was a real city, though its exact site remains unknown. Tyre's island city was famous for its formidable ramparts and fortifications, and th...

Zechariah 8: God’s Jealous Love

Zechariah 8: God’s Jealous Love Collin Leong. Feb 9th, 2026 (v1-23) The Coming Peace and Prosperity of Zion (v1-3) And the word of the LORD of hosts came, saying. "Thus says the LORD of hosts: I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath. I have returned to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and it will be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the LORD of hosts, the holy mountain.  Exp:  In Scripture, God’s “jealousy” is not petty envy but His zeal to guard His covenant relationship . He desires His people’s exclusive loyalty, much like a faithful spouse’s jealousy for their partner’s love.  His determination is to defend Zion from enemies and restore her well-being.  His jealousy includes wrath, directed not at Zion herself but at those who oppose or harm her. God is returning to dwell in Jerusalem. He departed from Jerusalem during the Babylonian exile period. Ezekiel 8-11 , God's glory (His m...
